The Northern Cape Provincial Government, through the Premier's Bursary Programme, is inviting RSA citizens, unemployed youth (18-30) from the Province, to apply for a bursary for full-time studies for undergraduate / first qualification studies at any accredited South African Higher Education Institution (HEI).

Financially needy applicants performing academically well will be prioritized.

Applications are welcomed and are open for Grade 12 learners current, completed and students who are already enrolled at a Higher Education Institution.

Recruitment & Selection

The following criteria shall be applied in the selection process:

  1. Duly completed application with supporting documents as per OTP checklist
  2. South African citizen residing in the Northern Cape province
  3. Applied for studies and or already studying at registered Higher Education Institutions.
  4. Fields of study aligned to disciplines identified as scarce, critical and hard-to-fill positions within the province.
  5. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics related fields of study are prioritised
  6. Demographic spread (Race & Gender)
  7. Persons with Disabilities will be prioritised
  8. Geographic (equitable across districts)
  9. Academic achievement of applicants
  10. Awards shall be based on combined household income / financial means as per below table

R350 001 - R550 000 R100 000
R550 001 - R800 000 R80 000

Successful students are expected to enter into a contractual agreement with the Office of the Premier

The Office of the Premier reserves the right to determine the total number of bursary allocations for the academic year based on the total budget available.
