Provincial Road Safety Debates see the cream of the crop set to represent the Province at National Debates

50 learners representing rural and urban schools from across the Northern Cape converged in Upington this weekend to partake in the Provincial Road Safety Debates Competitions.
 
The annual Road Safety Debates competitions aim to empower learners and their peers to become safer road users and ambassadors in their communities who make informed decisions on the road.  
 
The debates comprising of the urban and rural categories commenced in the five Districts where eliminations led to learners from various schools forming teams to represent their Districts in the Provincial leg of the debates.  
 
The best speakers in each category during the Provincial rounds where selected as the cream of the crop to form the 2017 Provincial Road Safety Debate Teams to represent the represent the Province at the National Debates in October this year in Rustenburg.  
 
The two topics debated during the final provincial round were:  
 
  • Urban Category topic:  Using your mobile phone while driving with or without a hand free device is not safe.
  • Rural Category Topic:  South Africa is on course to achieve the sustainable development goal to reduce road crashes y 50% by 2020.
