The purpose of this campaign is to promote the prevention and detection of corruption activities in all spheres of Government with the aim of promoting clean governance and conscientious citizenry in Government. Furthermore, this campaign will also serve to entrench a permanent sense of obligation to the vision of building a Modern, Growing Successful Province. A vision far to glaring to be eroded by corruption.
The Director General of the Northern Cape Provincial Administration, Justice Bekebeke encouraged the departments and stakeholders present to uproot corruption and report it to the relevant agencies. He also said that the responsibility is on all of us to spread the word of anti-corruption as much as possible.
The MEC for Social Development Ms Barbara Bartlett who was standing in for the MEC of COGSTA in her speech said: ‘’corruption in South Africa has been on a rapidly evolving rise and so widespread and universal that, unless it is decisively tackled there is a real danger that it will become entrenched as a ‘normal’ aspect of life”. She also highlighted that corruption undermines the delivery of public services: houses, health, water and electricity. The MEC in her closing remarks reaffirm the position of the Provincial Government on corruption. She said “we should engage on a firm trajectory to advance our collective effort to safeguard that the integrity of Provincial Government optimally functions in order to execute service delivery to our people”.
