The MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Mr Mac Jack appeals to all road users to obey the rules of the road while travelling to their respective destinations during this Easter weekend period.

“On behalf of the Northern Cape Provincial Government, I take this opportunity in wishing everyone a safe and joyous Easter period.

Let me also remind all road users that, as Government, when we declared 365 days of safety on our roads, in line with the United Nation’s ‘Decade of Action for Road Safety’, we have been, and are still continuing to, take firm approach on those driving under the influence as well as those using un-roadworthy vehicles, we are therefore sending a stern warning to alcohol abusers, speedsters, unlicensed drivers, drivers of unfit vehicles that this time around, they are in for a big surprise.

No stone will be left unturned, our approach remain zero tolerance during this Easter period. We urge all public transport operators to ferry passengers safely to their destinations, because one loss to us, in one too many.” MEC Jack sending a stern warning

Our multi-disciplinary law enforcement agencies will be deployed throughout the province and be visible in high accident zones focusing on the following: speeding, drinking and driving, dangerous overtaking and the use of cell phones as a measure of clamping down on this carnage.

During our operations, we will also enforce seatbelt wearing by both front and rear seated passengers. Our multi- disciplinary law enforcement agencies will be involved in a process of clamping down on overloaded busses, trucks and further checking on vehicle and driver fitness (Alcohol use) during this Easter period.
