PASSING OF MS RUTH MOMPATI

The Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Sylvia Lucas, on behalf of the Provincial Government and its entire people extend our deep and sincere condolences to the family, friends and comrades of the late Ms Ruth Mompati who was a seasoned political activist, leader and a fighter for women’s rights that dedicated her life at a young age to the service of others.

Ms Lucas fondly remembers the late Ms Mompati as a person that had a wealth of information and knowledge. This led to her being deployed to different leadership positions in the ANC and in Government. She was a distinguished leader who made sure that the people of this country, especially women experience the better life for which women of the late Ms Mompati’s caliber had fought for.

“This chapter has now been closed in the life of Ms Mompati and the greatest tribute that we as this generation and generations to come can pay to her is to follow in her footsteps and for women to take up their rightful place.”

The passing of the respected Ms Mompati is a great loss to the people of South Africa. Her legacy and memory reached far beyond the borders of this country and she will be sorely missed.
