Modern, Growing, Successful Province

The Public Service Commission to host the Citizens’ Forum in partnership with Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality and Provincial Government Departments to address issues affecting service delivery in Klein Mier

In the spirit of improving service delivery to address the needs of citizens and restore trust in government, the Public Service Commission (PSC) in partnership with Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality in the Northern Cape Province will host the Citizens Forum on Thursday, 22 September 2022 at the Klein Mier Community Hall.
The Citizens Forum aims to amongst others, evaluate service delivery in the area; assess the delivery of specific service delivery programmes; improve participation in the planning and implementation of serviced delivery programmes; and make recommendations on how to improve service delivery.

The old Mier Municipality which is now part of Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality is a rural community which has historically been marginalized in the provision of basic services. The PSC is of the view that the Citizens’ Forum will enable the community members to engage with various institutions of government on issues affecting service delivery in respect of the following, but not limited to:

  • Water shortages and poor sanitation;
  • Lack of access to medical care services;
  • Applications for identity documents and birth certificates;
  • Poor roads infrastructure, and
  • High crime rates and drug abuse amongst the youth.

Government departments will be provided with an opportunity to outline their plans for addressing the service delivery challenges raised by communities, showcase their services and provide assistance to the communities on-site. As such, all departments and institutions have been invited to bring the required services and relevant information to the community on the day of the Citizens’ Forum.

In attendance will be the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Professor Somadoda Fikeni and senior staff from the Public Service Commission. The Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul,  will attend the event and he will deliver a message of support.
