Human Rights Month is commemorated in March to remind South Africans about the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for the attainment of democracy in South Africa. Human Rights Day on 21 March falls within this period. The month of March is a heightened period in South Africa to mark Human Rights Month, commemorated under the theme, “Three Decades of Respect for and Promotion of Human Rights” On this special day of remembrance and reflection, we were honoured to be part of the commemoration in Carnavon, Pixley Ka Seme district. As we remember the sacrifices made for the attainment of democracy in South Africa, we were also committed to actively contributing to our community's growth and prosperity. The Premier Dr Zamani Saul urged the community of Carnavon to unity and fight against crime, Gender based violence and all ills in our community. Dr Saul called on the people of the Northern Cape and Kareeberg to partner with Provincial Government to improve the quality of the lives of the people of this Province. As the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, we are proud to have participated in the service delivery fair, bringing essential government services right to the heart of Carnavon. Our team worked tirelessly to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMMEs) with vital tasks such as business registration, filing annual returns, and renewing BBBEE certificates. We believe in the power of economic empowerment and the importance of supporting local businesses. By providing these services directly to our community, we are not just celebrating Human Rights Day; we are also taking meaningful steps towards building a brighter future for all. |
