The 22nd November 2025 marked a momentous occasion for the Northern Cape, Acting MEC for Health, Ms. Mase Manopole, joined thousands of athletes and spectators at the inaugural Diamonds and Dorings Kimberley Big Hole Marathon. This groundbreaking initiative brought world-class road running to the heart of our province, celebrating not only athletic excellence but also our rich diamond-mining heritage and the resilient spirit of our communities.
The Department of Health was proudly represented by Acting MEC Manopole alongside dedicated members of our departmental staff who took part in this historic event. Their participation demonstrates our commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles across the Northern Cape, reinforcing the vital connection between physical wellness and community wellbeing.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Northern Cape Provincial Government and Premier Dr. Zamani Saul, whose unwavering commitment to provincial development has championed this transformative initiative. This marathon is more than a sporting event; it is a statement of our province’s determination to create opportunities for health, tourism, and economic development. We also thank MEC Mangaliso Matika and the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture for their instrumental role in bringing this vision to life.
The Diamonds and Dorings Kimberley Big Hole Marathon, now an official qualifier for both the Comrades and Two Oceans marathon respectively, positions Kimberley on the national sporting map and opens new pathways for our athletes to pursue excellence. As the Department of Health, we celebrate this achievement and look forward to the positive impact it will have on promoting active living and inspiring healthier communities throughout our province.
