Purpose:

Support and facilitate the transformation, diversification and growth of the provincial economy by promoting integrated
development planning and innovation through efficient research to further growth and development

Functions:

1. Interpret the national government's economic policy and strategy so that they can be integrated in the provincial economic policy and strategy.
2. Formulate the provincial economic policy, growth and development strategy.
3. Monitor and ensure implementation, alignment and coordination of the provincial economic strategies across departments and other major stakeholders.
4. Manage the development and promotion of a knowledge economy strategy and facilitate growth and development of the sector.
5. Ensure integrated planning and implementation through the relevant institutional arrangements in the department.
