The Northern Cape Provincial Government has deemed it important to centralise all external bursaries offered by government departments in the Office of the Premier for a coordinated and integrated approach towards the skills revolution.
The vision of this programme is to maximise the potential of the youth of the province through the acquisition of knowledge and skills in order to achieve an improvement in the quality of life for all.
The bursaries are needs based and will be awarded within the available allocated budget.
Purpose of the Northern Cape Premier's Bursary Programme:
- Address skills shortage required in areas that are scarce and critical to improve the economy of the province.
- Provide a framework to select candidates to whom bursaries shall be awarded based on the available budget.
- Empower youth that are financially and academically deserving students by providing them an opportunity to gain access to tertiary education and obtain a qualification through full time/distance learning at an accredited Higher Education Institution within South Africa.
Funding model:
- The funding that will be available for providing bursaries to beneficiaries will be processed from the annual allocation received from Provincial Treasury, as part of the Annual Appropriation, which is documented and earmarked in the Estimates of Provincial Revenue and Expenditure.
- The funding will be awarded as bursaries and not loans.
