On the 6^th of December 2024, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism hosted a media briefing at the Northern Cape Skate Park, in Kimberley. As part of the build-up to the much-anticipated skating grand slams scheduled for early next year (2025). The event highlighted the province’s commitment to promoting sports tourism and fostering economic growth through unique recreational activities. 

The session saw a blend of media houses, provincial tourism officials, and skating enthusiasts meet at the state-of-the-art facility. The gathering set the tone for what promises to be a landmark event in the Northern Cape's sporting calendar. 

The Head of Department for Economic Development and Tourism welcomed attendees and expressed pride in the province’s ability to host such high-caliber events.

Delivering the keynote speech, MEC responsible for Finance, Economic Development, and Tourism, Venus Blennies-Magage highlighted the economic and social potential of the upcoming grand slams.

The media briefing also highlighted the broader objectives of the grand slams, including job creation, skills development, and infrastructure enhancement. Tourism officials elaborated on plans to boost local businesses and elevate the Northern Cape as a hub for adventure tourism.
