From February 17th to 21st, 2025, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism successfully hosted a series of impactful community engagement sessions across the Namakwa District, including Calvinia, Fraserburg, Williston, and Nieuwoudtville. These sessions were designed to provide valuable knowledge and skills to foster economic growth, entrepreneurship, and job readiness within the region.

The department partnered with key stakeholders, including the South African Astronomical  Observatory  (SAAO), the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), to bring these initiatives to life. The events served as a platform for local community members, including students, to engage with industry experts and gain essential insights into career opportunities, entrepreneurship, and how to be job-ready in today’s competitive market.

A highlight of the program was the career guidance and job readiness sessions held at high schools across the district, such as Hantam Hoërskool. These sessions aimed to prepare young individuals for their future careers by offering practical advice on job market expectations and entrepreneurial pathways. Students were able to connect with professionals from various sectors, helping them make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.
