From March 3rd to 7th, 2025, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism hosted a transformative Youth Barbering Training in Ritchie. This event, organized under the Integrated Economic Development Services (IEDS) unit, provided 13 (10 being male and 3 being females) young individuals with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the growing field of barbering.
The five-day training program was designed to equip participants with essential skills and techniques that are in high demand within the beauty and grooming industry. Led by industry professionals, the training covered various aspects of barbering, including hair cutting, styling, shaving, and grooming. By the end of the course, participants not only gained valuable knowledge but also built the confidence to pursue careers in the barbering and personal care sectors.
The training initiative is part of IEDS' ongoing commitment to fostering economic growth and providing youth with the tools to succeed in their careers. Through these programs, IEDS continues to empower young people with skills that can lead to long-term, sustainable employment opportunities.
Participants left the training with both a newfound passion for the craft and practical skills to begin their journeys in the barbering industry. The program also provided valuable networking opportunities, connecting young aspiring barbers with experienced mentors in the field.
This initiative reflects the Department’s broader goals of diversifying skill sets within the community, creating pathways for entrepreneurship, and supporting the development of self-sustaining local businesses.
As the world of work evolves, initiatives like this are crucial in preparing the next generation for success. The Department of Economic Development and Tourism is proud to have facilitated such a valuable training experience, and looks forward to offering more opportunities that empower and uplift the youth in our community.
