Bio

Michelle Pretorius is a Deputy Director Aquaculture Advisor in the Fisheries Management Branch of the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries previously the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and has been with the Department since 2009.  As an Aquaculture Advisor for the Operation Phakisa Delivery Unit her core functions entail providing advisory services to clients on Aquaculture Oceans Economy initiatives, unblocking challenges faced by the aquaculture sector thereby contributing to the development of the sector in a meaningful and impactful manor. Michelle also provides technical advice and supports policy development for aquaculture initiatives driven by government. She provides technical support to the various Aquaculture Development Zones established along our coast and has been providing project management to these initiatives for the past 9 years.

 Presentation

Michelle will be a panel representative answering questions relating to Aquaculture sector in South Africa with a focus of the potential of the Northern Cape.

Subsistence fishers rely on marine resources as a basic source of food.
