OVERSIGHT VISIT BY HEALTH MEC, MR MARUPING LEKWENE TO MONITOR HEALTH SERVICES IN SOL PLAATJE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY.


Following the public service strike action impacting on service delivery, the Northern Cape Health MEC, Mr Maruping Lekwene conducted an oversight visit to monitor health services delivery in the Sol-plaatje local municipality. The MEC was accompanied by Acting HoD, Mr Riaan Strydom; Head of Ministry for Health, Ms Nonceba Moleleki and senior management in the Department. Facilities covered includes; Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe hospital, Galeshewe Day hospital and Betty Gaetsewe Clinic. 

OVERSIGHT VISIT BY NORTHERN CAPE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO MONITOR THE ROLL OUT OF MEASLES AND HPV CAMPAIGN IN CALVINIA.

   

As part of our Integrated School Health Programme (ISHP) to mobilise communities to support the inoculation of children for Human Pappilomavirus and Measles, the Northern Cape Health MEC, Mr Maruping Lekwene and Education MEC, Mr Zolile Monakali conducted an oversight visit to monitor the vaccination programme at Hantam High School in the Hantam local Municipality. Bivalent HPV vaccine is administered to all grade 5 girls aged 9 and above using 2 dose schedule in six months apart. The rationale is to protect the girl child from contracting Cervical cancer caused by the Human Papilloma Viruses 16 and 18 in the later stages of their life.
The HPV campaign commenced on the 20th   February and expect to run until 31st March 2023. It runs concurrently with Measles vaccination to allow the department to reach all the children targeted.


In respect to HPV learner coverage in our province, the department targets 11 000 learners (80%) in 401 schools. In terms of Measles coverage, a total of 393 310 children (95%) aged 6 months to 15 years are targeted in the province and a catch-up programme is also done on Vitamin A and deworming for children who missed their routine dose.Both the MECs of Health and Education expressed their heartfelt thanks to the teachers and health team for their hard work, dedication and most importantly, for the collaboration. They further thanked the parents and legal guardians for their positive response in prioritising the health of their children.

Their hard work, commitment and dedication have now reaped the benefits and have The MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Bernice Sinxeve would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Hungry Lions Football Club from Postmasburg on their outstanding performance and victory over Jomo Cosmos in the Nedbank Cup Challenge on Sunday 09TH February 2020 in Potchefstroom.

Become true ambassadors and role models for the youth of this province.

As a Province we are ecstatic on their achievement thus far in the Nedbank and we wish them everything of the best for the Round of 16 Clash.

In conclusion it is of utmost importance to remember that sport continues to be a vital tool in nation-building and the support of our sports people across different racial, religious and other boundaries is indicative of the deepening of our nationhood and the building of a common South African identity.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES DAY CELEBRATION

Department of Health annual EMS  celebration at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs stadium in Upington ZFM District. The aim of this day is to pay homage to EMS service workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and to celebrate those who continue to serve the community. This year's theme is"Siyanda - together we grow"  which is aimed at professionalising EMS.

Premier meets 200 first year students of Sol Plaatje University

Premier Dr Zamani Saul met with 200 first year students from the University of Sol Plaatje. The students were brought together by the Christian revival Church and gathered at Deo Gloria in Barkley- West on Saturday, 15th February 2020.

In his address to the young people, Premier Dr Saul encouraged them to get out of their confined environments and to use the daring spirit of being young. He persuaded them to articulate a vision for their lives and strive towards achieving this vision.

“Education is the best equaliser for any community; it is only with education that we are able to end poverty. Remember major historical events were driven by young people and you too are able to turn things around.” He said to the Youth Camp.
