MEC KOLOI HOSTED THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, MR MKHULEKO HLENGWA, FOR THE CLOSURE OF THE SAFER FESTIVE SEASON ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN

The Northern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Honourable Limakatso Koloi, hosted the Deputy Minister of Transport Honourable Mkhuleko Hlengwa at the official closure of the Safety Campaign in the Northern Cape Province.

The event took place on the R31 near Kimberley, a critical route that experiences high traffic volumes during the festive season. The closure programme marks the culmination of intensified road safety awareness, law enforcement operations, and stakeholder collaborations aimed at reducing road crashes, injuries, and fatalities across the province during the festive period.

The Safer Festive Season Road Safety Campaign focused on promoting responsible road user behaviour, including adherence to speed limits, zero tolerance for drinking and driving, pedestrian safety, and ensuring vehicle roadworthiness.

The presence of Deputy Minister Hlengwa underscores the national government’s commitment to working closely with provinces to improve road safety and protect the lives of all road users.

The Deputy Minister and MEC was joined by the MMC for Safety at the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality, the Head of Department Mr Rodney Pieterse, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for SAPS Major General Besnaar, senior officials from the National Department of Transport, law enforcement agencies, the CEO of the Northern Cape Liquor and Gambling Board and road safety stakeholders.
