N Cape Department celebrates with the six winners of the Provincial Taxi Driver Competition

The Northern Cape Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison held a successful Taxi Driver Competition on Sunday where 6 entrants walked away as winners.

The competition aimed at promoting Road Safety and awarding excellence in the taxi industry was a collaboration between our Department and the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco). 

The competition also forms part of our Department’s vision to ensure safe, secure and sustainable transport for all in the Province.

The competition started with the Regional Competition where 20 taxi drivers nominated by Santaco participated at the regional level and winners secured a place to compete at the Provincial level of the competition.

The Provincial round had a women and men category where each category had six winners.

All five Districts of the Province: Frances Baard, Pixley Ka Seme, Namakwa, ZF Mgcawu and John Taolo Gaetsewe, were represented in the competition.  Each winner walked away with a Samsung Curved TV. 

Female Category Winners in order:

1st place:  Veronique van den Heever (Namakwa District)
2nd place:  Marie Mathwari (and John Taolo Gaetsewe District)
3rd place:  Mpho Kunene (and John Taolo Gaetsewe District)

Male Category Winners in order:

1st place:  Frank Isaaks (ZF Mgcawu District)
2nd place:  Erus Swartz (ZF Mgcawu District)
3rd place:  Mothusi Mocumi (and John Taolo Gaetsewe District)
