Today, the Premier of the Northern Cape, Honorable Silvia Lucas announced her Executive Council at the provincial Legislature; it is for this reason that the Northern Cape Provincial Treasury through the stewardship of Head of Department, Mr Sello Mokoko welcomes the redeployment of honourable MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr. John Block with warm and open arms.
The honorable MEC will meet the general staff at a meeting on June 20 2014, with all Treasury officials to pledge not to take the foot off the pedal of service delivery but to fully embrace and embody the Batho Pele principles as always; this platform aimed at taking Northern Cape Treasury to another level to improve the lives of the people of the Province.
The Northern Cape Provincial Treasury seems to be fortunate for always being given a visionary leadership. The role our department in the province needs an experienced and highly competent leadership of MEC Block’s caliber, because of our role as the keeper of the provincial purse. The competent, professional and knowledgeable MEC Block has the interest and wellbeing of the province at heart and he is a tremendous asset to Northern Cape Government. Under his leadership as the MEC for Finance, not even single department has been placed under administration, we are not considered as a target for section 100 of the constitution because through his leadership skills we are able to keep liquidity requirements to acceptable levels within our allocated equitable shares and conditional grants . He is dedicated in sharing his expertise on specific methods and tested approaches of turning the budget, financial management and transversal systems into developmental mode of the province”, said Mokoko.
MEC Block indicated that he is humbled and honored by being deployed to the same portfolio and he is confident that the professional, committed and hardworking team led by the HOD Sello Mokoko will continue to advance the developmental and transformational agenda of Government; and implementation of the National Development Plan; and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations to enhance service delivery. He emphasized the point that the race has started and there is no turning back; and that Government will continue to improve on previous experienced challenges. He welcomes constructive and robust debates that will assist in shaping the future of this province. We have undertaken to move the province forward.
