The Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Hazel Jenkins on 18 February, 2010 immediately after her State of the Province Address visit two old age homes to handover food parcels and other necessities.
The old age homes she visited were Resthaven Old Age and Galeshewe Old Age (Seochoareng). This generous gesture also marked the special occasion of her second State of the Province Address and the 20 years of freedom of former President Nelson Mandela.
She said that the senior citizens should be honoured for the sacrifices they made in building our country, and for their children many of whom are today holding respectable positions in the society.
This gesture by the Premier shoud be seen as the commitement that the Procincail goverment of the Northen Cape cares about the people that suffered under the Apartheid regime. Equally cival servants and the private sector must show their commitment to the aged of the province.
