As it is commonly known African children were affected by development, social exclusion and inhumane treatment. In response to this situation the Children’s Rights Activist sought the intervention on the United Nations. This led to the ratifying of international conventions by South Africa.
In South Africa childhood day is celebrated on the 1st Saturday of November annually. For the past six years the Children’s day is celebrated with a minimum of 1700 children each year. For this year, the National programme of the National Children’s Day was held on 06 November 2010, in Rustenburg.

The National theme is aligned with the call to strengthen efforts in ensuring Child Survival through intensive measures.
Theme
“Act for the Survival of all Children: Towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals”.
In the provincial “Thakaneng”, children will deliberate on the achievements of the province on the Millennium Developments Goals and make recommendations on how to improve on those achievements.
Focus areas to be deliberated by the children this year will focus on:
a) Promoting Gender Equality and empower girls
b) Substances Abuse
c) Teenage Pregnancy
d) Child Headed Household
