All colleagues in the public service are urged to participate or egage in any of the following activities in keeping with the call of the President to dedicate today to the memory of the people who died in the unfortunate Lonmin Mining Massacre.
President Jacob Zuma has called on all of us to either observe a moment of silence, have a candle lighting ceremony, have silent prayer and meditation or organize a memorial service in honor of the people who lost their lives in such a tragic manner.
The Acting Premier, Mme Grizelda Cjikella and her entire Cabinet, wish to extend sincere condolences to all the families who lost a loved one in last week's tragic events in the Mirakan Lonmin Mine incident.
As a mining province, we hope that incidents of this nature will never ever happen again in our country. Both the owners of the mines and the workers are protected by our Constitution and Labour Relations legislation. All parties must subject themselves to those pieces of legislation as they engage in wage talks or seek ways to resolve their disputes.
We fully support the interventions of government, under the leadership of President Zuma. We are confident that the Task Team set up by government, will do everything in it's power to resolve this unfortunate incident of the Lonmin Mine, and address the needs of those who died and must still be buried.
May their Souls rest in peace!
