The Northern Cape Provincial Government continues to drive economic transformation through inclusive procurement practices that empower historically disadvantaged groups. In the 2024/2025 financial year, total procurement expenditure reached R5.85 billion, with R3.66 billion (62.47%) directed to black-owned enterprises. Women-owned businesses received R1.36 billion (23.21%), while youth-owned enterprises secured R660 million (11.28%), fostering entrepreneurship and job creation. Enterprises owned by persons with disabilities benefited from R55 million (0.93%), highlighting an area requiring further support.
Progress remains steady in the 2025/2026 financial year. As of December 2025, procurement expenditure stood at R3.73 billion, with R1.99 billion (53.41%) awarded to black-owned enterprises. Women-and youth-owned businesses received R646 million (17.33%) and R450 million (12.06%), respectively. However, R9.6 million (0.26%) allocated to enterprises owned by persons with disabilities underscores the need for targeted interventions. These investments reaffirm the province's commitment to inclusive growth and economic empowerment.
