The Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, together with the MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, and the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, conducted a strategic visit to the Kalagadi Manganese Mine in Hotazel. The visit formed part of ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen collaboration with key industry stakeholders and to gain first-hand insight into the operations and future trajectory of one of the province's most significant mining assets. During the engagement, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing from Mrs Daphne Mashile-Nkosi on the mine's current performance and planned expansion initiatives.
These developments are expected to significantly increase production capacity and reinforce the mine's contribution to both provincial and national economic growth. The discussions further highlighted the critical role of continued investment, innovation and infrastructure development in sustaining the competitiveness of the mining sector. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of electrification as a key enabler of modern, efficient and sustainable mining operations. The visit also provided a platform for alignment between national and provincial leadership on the strategic importance of the Northern Cape in South Africa's economic future. With its vast mineral resources and growing energy capacity, the province continues to position itself as a central hub for industrial expansion and long-term investment. The Northern Cape Provincial Government remains committed to working closely with industry partners to unlock growth, create employment opportunities and drive inclusive economic development across the Northern Cape.
