The Department of Transport Safety and Liaison, in collaboration with local stakeholders, officially launched the Arrive Alive Easter Road Safety Campaign 2026 in Hopetown under the theme '' Its starts with me'. The initiative comes ahead of the busy Easter weekend, a period traditionally marked by increased travel across South Africa. As part of the campaign, officials and volunteers conducted a door-to-door road safety awareness program in the streets of Hopetown. The outreach aimed to directly engage with residents and road users, reminding them of the importance of safe driving practices during this high-risk period.
Community members were encouraged to obey all traffic rules and regulations, avoid speeding and reckless driving, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on long trips and practice patience and courtesy on the roads. With thousands expected to travel during the Easter holidays, the Department has urged all road users to exercise caution and prioritise safety. The message is clear every life matters and adherence to traffic rules is essential to prevent accidents and save lives. The Hopetown launch sets the tone for similar initiatives across the province, reinforcing the commitment to reducing road fatalities and ensuring that everyone arrives alive this Easter.
Together, communities and authorities are working hand in hand to make the roads safer for all. The official launch was conducted by the MEC for Transport Safety and Liaison, Ms Limakatso Koloi, accompanied by the acting Provincial Commissioner of Police, Maj General (Dr) Mphuti and various stakeholders in the road safety fraternity.
