The Ministry of Safety and Liaison hereby condemns the current xenophobic attacks or criminal acts perpetrated under the disguise of xenophobia in the strongest terms.

An appeal is extended to the people of the Northern Cape to exercise restraint and tolerance and not to make themselves guilty of these cowardess and misguided acts.

The Department wish to assure all residents in the Northern Cape that the Justice Process will be allowed to run its course and the Criminal Justice System will not fail those who are victims of xenophobic or any form of violence. We are a tolerant Province and we will not be influenced or intimidated by events currently unfolding in some parts of the country.

The human rights abuse and violence against our brothers and sisters of Africa must stop and we as the people of the Northern Cape condemn with contempt what is happening in our country.

To this end the Department in partnership with the religious fraternity and faith based organizations as well as the community will have a prayer session at the Mayibue Centre on Sunday 1 June 2008. The aim of the gathering is to appeal for peace, stability and reconciliation because SOUTH AFRICA BELONGS TO ALL WHO LIVE IN IT.

Your presence at the event will be appreciated.
