2 July 2013

The Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison views the taxi industry as a pivotal transport role player and in no way does the department take the industry for granted.

The department notes the concerns raised by the taxi industry that the petrol hike will not only affect their daily operations and profit but might in the end affect commuters as they consider increasing the taxi fare.

There is a National Transformation Plan process currently underway which aims to transform the taxi industry while it will also address some of the concerns raised in the industry.

However, the department continues to have an open door policy to discuss any issues with regard to transport matters in the province.

There are operational initiatives where the department is assisting the taxi industry and have good working relationship with the department.
