Modern, Growing, Successful Province

Media Invite

The Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, together with Members of the Executive Council is set to officially launch the Love Your School Campaign in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District this week. The Love Your School Campaign is a first for the Province and spearheaded by the Northern Cape Executive Council as a collective.

This programme seeks to, amongst others, raise awareness to learners and members of the community about the problem of environmental degradation, which can be reversed by educating the nation and adopting sustainable measures of harvesting environmental resources with a view to create a legacy that future generations can inherit.

Part of this programme is also to create the management and maintenance of sanitation facilities in schools and further increase awareness of good sanitation and hygiene practices. For this reason the Love Your School Campaign plans to take the schools sanitation programmes into the next phase with a greater emphasis to educate school staff and cleaners on how to keep their ablution facilities clean on an on-going basis and to inculcate practising good hygiene.

The programme is drawn from the President’s call for Thuma Mina campaign of stewardship and citizens getting involved in the Keep South Africa Clean theme, which has been developed by the steering committee of the National Chemicals and Waste Awareness forum.

Following the official launch, each MEC and Head of Department with their respective officials will immediately move to their allocated school in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District for the Love Your School Activations. The District will serve as a pilot site for the year and it is anticipated that the full scale rollout of the Programme in the Province will take place during the 2021 academic year.

It is expected that learners, educators, parents, individuals and organisations will join the Premier, MEC’S and Senior Government officials to take a stand against litter in their areas and start to clean up their areas. Municipalities will also be encouraged to partake in the clean-up campaigns and to ensure that their localities are free of illegal dumps.

Members of the media are invited to cover the launch as follows:
Date: 24 January 2020
Venue: Moshaweng High School, Loopeng Village, Kuruman
Time: 7h30

Kindly confirm attendance. Transport will be made available for members of the media and will depart Kimberley at 4h30 on the 24th January 2020 and return the same day. Kindly indicate should you be interested for more details.
