Premier Dr Zamani Saul together with the MEC for Health, Mr Maruping Lekwene on behalf of Provincial Government, received donations from a Collaborative Forum in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District. The Collaborative Forum consists of the South 32 Mine, Kathu Solar Park, SIOC Community Development Trust, SIOC Kumba, Kudumane Manganese Reserve, Assmang Blackrock and Assmang Khumani. The stakeholders have come together and combined their complementary strengths to ensure that they assist Provincial Government to win the battle against COVID-19 through the Northern Cape Shared Value initiative.
The Northern Cape Shared Value initiative is an initiative by the mines aimed at achieving greater socio-economic impact within their surrounding communities. Through this initiative, the mines were able to commit over R100 million towards the fight against COVID-19. These include Personal Protective Equipment to the hospitals, Screening and Testing, Water Supply to the villages and Isolation and Quarantine sites.
As we move closer to the anticipated COVID-19 peak as a Province, it is important that we fight this battle together as Government, the Community and the Private Sector. We need to ensure that we remain safe at all times, wear our masks, avoid gatherings such as parties and main social distance. Together we are able to win the battle against COVID-19.
