The Hungry Lions Football Club has displayed remarkable talent this week at the ABC Motsepe Foundation League. This has seen the team qualifying for the finals to be played on Saturday, 3 July 2021 after they beat Mangaung United in the semi-finals. They are also now promoted to the GladAfrica Championship.
The Premier, Dr Zamani Saul on behalf of the Provincial Government, extends our heartfelt congratulations to the team and its management as they will be competing in the first division in the next season. Government sees this as a great achievement for the Province as it will also spur on young people in sports to work hard and achieve their aspirations.
As part of Provincial Government’s commitment and continued support for the team to make their breakthrough from the First Division into the DSTV Premier League; we have partnered with Wildeklawer, Emmanuel Diamonds and Barzani Groups and will immediately donate an amount of R500 000 (five hundred thousand rand) to the team. The Provincial Government will continue to support the team in this difficult League division. We wish to thank the sponsors for their generous donations in seeing the team succeed. A special word of gratitude also goes to the Provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Culture for the enormous support that they have given the team thus far.
Our vision remains to have a team from the Northern Cape in the DSTV Premier League and this achievement brings us close to that.
We thank the people of the Northern Cape for their continued support of our boys.
