The Minister for Small Business Development, Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams together with the Premier, Dr. Zamani Saul, visited Carnavon, in the Kareeberg Municipality, for the Northern Cape leg of the Ministerial Road Show under the theme, “Unlocking opportunities for SMME'S and Co-operatives for economic growth and job creation.”
The focus for the visit was on the Informal and Micro Enterprise Development Programme (IMEDP). This programme specifically targets entrepreneurs in the informal economy.
It intends to create an environment that supports sustainable economic growth in the informal economy, it also aims at bringing the informal economy into the mainstream thereby reducing vulnerability and exclusion of those working in this sector.
The SMME sector has been identified as critical in addressing the key developmental goals of the Government, namely sustainable livelihoods (poverty), job creation (unemployment) and equality (inequality).
The Minister of Small Business Development, Ms Stella Ndabani-Abrahams, together with the Premier , Dr Zamani Saul, handed over equipment to 44 small business beneficiaries in Carnavon, Kareeberg Municipality, totally approximately R500 000 as part of the Informal and Micro Enterprise Development Programme.
Provincial Government remains committed to assist SMME’s. The value and impact of small businesses should not be underestimated as small businesses are vital to growing the economy.
