Modern, Growing, Successful Province

THE NORTHERN CAPE RECORDS THE SECOND LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN THE COUNTRY

The Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr. Zamani Saul welcomes the positive results from the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey for Quarter three of 2024. The province has seen a notable decrease in unemployment, with a drop of 1.6 percentage points. This marks an important step towards achieving Provincial Governments goal of creating 60,000 jobs over the next five years, in line with the provincial vision of modernisation, economic growth, and long-term success.

The Premier acknowledges the significant contribution of sectors such as the agricultural, community services, financial, transport, construction, and trade, which recorded employment gains in the past quarter. This aligns with the provincial focus on expanding economic opportunities and enhancing job creation, particularly through strategic initiatives that foster growth and stability in key industries.

Furthermore, the increase from 314 000 people employed to 337 000 people employed, which is an increase of 23 000 jobs, indicates a positive shift in the employment landscape. The Premier remains committed to driving the modernisation of government operations, ensuring that technology is leveraged to increase efficiency and support economic growth. The continued success of these initiatives will be crucial in meeting the province’s job creation targets.

Consistent with the ANC’s commitment to create jobs, the Premier is confident that the quarter three employment figures will serve as a foundation for further progress. With continued investment in critical sectors and a commitment to building a thriving economy, the province is on track to attaining its vision of a Modern, Growing and Successful Northern Cape.
