The recent visit by the COGHSTA Frances Baard Regional Office to Platfontein, !Xunkhwesa Combined School aimed to address significant challenges impacting local students. This includes drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, and absenteeism due to menstruation. The initiative, in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Department of Social Development, was prompted by findings from the Community Development Workers (CDW).
An interactive session allowed students to engage directly with stakeholders, who offered guidance on how to tackle these issues. A notable part of the intervention was the distribution of over 1000 sanitary towels, ensuring that students had access to necessary hygiene products and reducing absenteeism related to menstruation.
This intervention is part of ongoing efforts to support students in overcoming obstacles and ensuring a healthier, more supportive learning environment.
