The Office on the Status of Persons with Disabilities (OSPD) unit within the OTP hosted a Validation Workshop on the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (WPRPD) and the Job Access Strategic Framework (JASF) on 27–28 February 2025.
The workshop brought together sector departments, district municipalities, and Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) to assess progress in implementing disability rights policies and frameworks.
The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Mantantana, Director: Provincial Transformation Programmes, who emphasised the importance of the workshop in strengthening accountability, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that government efforts align with the principles of disability inclusion and equal opportunities.
A pivotal session of the workshop featured Mr. Pillay, who provided an overview of the WPRPD and JASF, focusing on their core pillars and their significance in guiding the Northern Cape Provincial Government’s service delivery approach for the disability sector.
During the second session, the Manager of the OSPD unit, Ms Kenosi Sebico provided an analysis of the implementation reports submitted over the past three quarters, offering detailed feedback on progress, challenges, and areas requiring improvement.
The validation workshop proved to be a resounding success, fostering critical dialogue and reinforcing government’s commitment to ensuring the full inclusion, empowerment, and protection of persons with disabilities in the Northern Cape.
