On 7 May 2025, MEC Bentley Vass met with contractors in Springbok to review progress on the R1 billion housing project in the Namakwa District.
This ambitious initiative aims to address the significant housing backlog in the Northern Cape, with 2,500 housing units planned in the first phase across 13 municipalities and all 5 Provincial districts.
During the meeting, MEC Vass highlighted the urgency of timely and quality delivery, warning that delays or poor workmanship would not be tolerated. “Our communities are patiently waiting for these houses. We are monitoring your performances closely,” he stated, emphasising Government’s commitment to service delivery.
The Municipalities in Namakwa set to benefit from the project include Nama-Khoi, Kamiesberg, Hantam, and Khai-Ma.
