In a dedicated effort to promote food security and sustainable practices across the Northern Cape, MEC Mase Manopole recently visited Bergsig in the Namakwa District to hand over food garden establishment packs to two local schools namely :Dr Izak Van Niekerk Primary School and SA Van Wyk Secondary School.
These garden packs are part of the Department’s broader initiative aimed at creating eco-friendly environments, supporting sustainable food production, and improving learner nutrition.
By equipping schools with practical agricultural tools and resources, the program seeks to empower students and staff to develop their own food gardens, fostering a culture of self-reliance and environmental stewardship.
MEC Manopole emphasized the Department’s commitment to expanding food security efforts throughout the region. “Where food gardens already exist, we will strengthen and expand them. For areas without such facilities, we will establish new gardens to promote food security and eco-friendly practices,” she affirmed.
Together, we are sowing the seeds for a healthier, more resilient future.
