MEC Fufe Makatong, together with Dr. Johny MacKay, Head of the Department of Roads and Public Works, are leading strategic engagements with municipalities across the Pixley Ka Seme District. These engagements are focused on enhancing service delivery through key governance priorities:
* Advancing the payment of rates and taxes on government-owned buildings
* Ensuring the responsible disposal of government property
* Addressing servitude encroachments along provincial roads
A central part of today’s discussions include strategic reflections on the implementation of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), especially its role in poverty alleviation and uplifting local communities.
MEC Makatong emphasised the critical importance of leveraging state assets to stimulate economic growth and contribute to the Northern Cape Provincial Government's target of creating 60,000 jobs. She called on municipalities to implement inclusive job creation initiatives that empower households, while also ensuring that policies around property disposal that deliver meaningful community benefits.
