Challenges Of Food Security, Malnutrition And Poverty To Be On The Spotlight

The challenges of Food Security, malnutrition and poverty will be on the spotlight when the Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform commemorates World Food Day in De Beershoogte near Barkly West on the 20th October 2023. World Food Day is observed annually on the 16th October to mark the date of founding in Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945. This commemoration seeks to build greater momentum in eradicating poverty and malnutrition. Hence the Department, through its Extension Services encourages and assists communities to start their own backyard gardens across the Province. The event will be celebrated under the theme “Water is life, Water is food, leave no one behind”. The Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land reform MEC, Mme Mase Manopole together with Dikgatlong Mayor and local councilors will brace the occasion on the day. MEC Manopole will handover vegetables starter-up packs, wheelbarrows and dustbins to Boresetse High and Barkley West Primary schools to encourage the schools to produce their own fresh vegetables.
