A delegation from the Provincial Government recently embarked on an outbound mission to Rosh Pinah and Lüderitz in the ||Kharas Region in Namibia for a Joint Technical Committee Meeting, to reaffirm and strengthen the Twinning Agreement entered into in 1999.
The historic signing of this Twinning Agreement in 1999 between the llKharas Regional Council of Namibia and the Northern Cape Province of South Africa has identified key areas of cooperation and collaboration, namely economic development, trade and investment attraction, agriculture, tourism, sport, arts and culture, social services and importantly strengthening local authorities.
In welcoming the delegation, the Governor of the //Kharas Region, Ms Aletha Frederick, commended the Northern Cape’s unwavering commitment to this partnership and pledged the Region’s dedication to making this Agreement a success for the mutual benefit of both Provinces.
This working session is responsible to set the agenda for the Joint Political Committee and for making recommendations to this structure.
As part of the collaboration under the Twinning Agreement the delegation also participated in the annual business conference and delivered a message of support at the official launch of the Crayfish Festival in Lüderitz, Namibia.
The continued collaboration between the two regions will focus on interventions for the benefit of the people in both regions in the near and long-term future.
