The switching on of electricity, coupled with the opening of a brand new community hall in Lepelfontein

17 December 2010

SPEAKER-NOTES FOR THE PREMIER OF THE NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCE, MRS HAZEL JENKINS, ON OCCASION OF THE SWITCHING ON OF ELECTRICITY AND THE OPENING OF A NEW COMMUNITY HALL IN LEPELFONTEIN, NAMAKWA DISTRICT, ON WEDNESDAY, 15 DECEMBER 2010

Honourable Mayor
Members of the Northern Cape Executive Council
Honourable Councillors
Members of the Community
Invited Guests
Ladies and Gentlemen

I am certain that I speak on behalf of all the members of the Northern Cape Executive Council when I say that we are all sincerely delighted to be part of this momentous occasion in Lepelfontein.

The switching on of electricity, coupled with the opening of a brand new community facility that will house a crèche, a library and a clinic is cause for celebration indeed.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as part and parcel of the ANC-led government’s primary objective of enhancing the quality of life of all South African citizens, we have gathered here this morning to officially witness this historic event which, hopefully, will act as a further trajectory for prosperity and development in this part of Namaqualand.

The switching on of lights represents not only hope, promise and positivity but it also bodes well for the future development of Lepelfontein and surrounding areas.

As members of your provincial government we sincerely wish to see small businesses being established, infrastructure being developed and community members being gainfully employed.

In addition, Ladies and Gentlemen, the opening of a new community library evokes many new feelings for the future well-being of members of this community, especially our children and the youth. With time, I am sure that with the necessary encouragement from parents and teachers alike, we will see better report cards from our children in the not too distant future.

In addition, the new clinic will provide basic healthcare services to the community, thereby ensuring that every person will receive basic medical treatment.

Working mothers and fathers can, from now on; rest assured that their children will be accommodated in the new crèche, while they are away at work, safe and sound in the hands of dedicated staff.

In conclusion we are obliged to collectively acknowledge that this ANC-led government will cover the length and breadth of the Northern Cape Province to bring basic and quality services to all our people.

The onus rests on the members of the Lepelfontein community to take care and preserve these wonderful facilities for generation to come.

I thank you.
