The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development has started its search for the province’s best female farmers in the Female Entrepreneur of the Year Competition 2010. The call for the applicants in the competition is set to be heartened by the widespread publicity in an attempt to draw an ever-increasing number of participants.
As from this year, the scope of the competition has expanded in alignment with the new mandate of government to include fisheries and forestry sectors. Therefore the female producers and entrepreneurs in agriculture, fisheries and forestry will be awarded. The competition will also for the first time recognize the contribution of female farm workers in these sectors. Two vibrant youthful categories have been added in this year’s competition to contribute to the entrepreneurial development of young people.
Entries are awaited in the six categories
* Best Female Worker,
* Best Subsistence Producer
* Top Young Entrepreneur
* Top Young Entrepreneur: Smallholder,
* Top Entrepreneur : Commercial,
* Top Entrepreneur : Export Markets
Former entrants are also encouraged to re-enter this year’s Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 Competition and with the past category winners expected to vie for the honours in improved categories. The prize –money will be disclosed towards the run up to the award ceremony. The closing date for nomination processes is the 30th of June 2010.
The award ceremony will be held in August 2010 to form part of festivities during the of the Women’s Month. Six winners will later represent the province in the National Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 competition schedule to take place in the same month. END
