Launch of Poultry Farmers Association

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development in-conjuction with South African Poultry Association will be launching Poultry Farmers Association in the Province. The launch will be in Kuruman in the John Taolo District on the 16-17 April 2012.The aim of launching the association in the province is to expose farmers to all holistic approach to the African Poultry Industry.

It also seeks to provide an opportunity to all aspects of the local sector- this includes the poultry breeds, equipments, remedies, feeds and expose them to the potential markets. Above all to give them more information regarding the poultry industry.

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural development’s MEC, Mr Norman Shushu will deliver a keynote address. With this launch, the department has an objective of assisting emerging farmers to graduate and become commercial farmers of which poultry is not exceptional.

Therefore a structure of this magnitude in the province will create a successful platform for information sharing ,which will assist the department to achieve its objectives. It will also assist to strengthen support to small and medium scale farmers in improving agricultural production. About 50 poultry farmers are expected to attend the launch.

EDITORS’S NOTES
To date the province has 50 poultry projects of which 38 are broiler producers- 5 producing in large scale, and 32 in smaller scale. 12 layer projects of which 10 producing in smaller scale and two are doing exceptionally well.
The John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality has the largest number of poultry projects in the province with 35 while the lowest is Pixley Ka Seme with two.
