HAND - OVER OF R12M to NGO’S

The Northern Cape Provincial MEC of Health, Mr MS Sokatsha, will officially hand over R12 Million to 44 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) operating in the health sector in the Northern Cape Province. The event will take place at Ekhaya Guesthouse -Kimberley in the Frances Baard District of the Northern Cape Province.

The donation of the R12M is part of the six year Partnership for the Delivery of Primary Health Care Programme (PDPHCP) developed by the Government of South-Africa and the European Union(EU). The programme focuses on strengthening the delivery of primary health care services by supporting the development of partnerships between Government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) in South-Africa. Furthermore, the programme also aims to align the NGO’s functioning within government policies and strategies, strengthening the implementation of Community Health Workers through collaboration with the Extended Public Works Programme and conduct monitoring and evaluation for services rendered by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s).

The programme was started in 2005 and is ending 2011 whereby all nine Provinces will be expected to take over the programme for sustainability.

Money donated will be used to strengthen the operations of NGO’s in terms of transport, equipment and infrastructure challenges.

Other dignitaries expected to accompany the MEC of Health are MEC’s for government departments, Members of the Provincial Portfolio Committee members of Health, Members of the Northern Cape Health Council, Mayor of Sol Plaatje Local Municipality, Executive Mayor of Frances Baard District Municipality, the Head of the Health Ministry, the Acting Head of the Department of Health, as well as senior managers and officials from the Northern Cape Department of Health.
