Laying of first brick and handover of site - New De-Aar Hospital

The Honourable Premier of the Northern Cape Province, Ms Hazel Jenkins and the MEC for Health in province, Mr Mxolisi Sokatsha, would like to take this opportunity to invite all media to the laying of the first brick and handover of site of the new De Aar Hospital.

The construction of the new De Aar Hospital forms part of government’s 10 Point Plan for the Health sector as capsulated under Point 3: Improving the Quality of Health care services and Point 6: Revitalization of Health Infrastructure. The new hospital will be constructed over a three year period starting October 2010 at a cost of R350M.

The new hospital will address the service delivery challenges faced by the Pixley-Ka-Seme district in terms of availability of key medical services like surgery, gynecology,ICU etc.

The HCT(HIV Counselling and Testing) Campaign under the banner: “I am responsible...We are responsible... South Africa is taking responsibility” will form part of the event aimed at increasing our efforts to address the scourge of HIV and AIDS in our province and our country and urges each and every one of us to take personal and collective responsibility of our own health and HIV status

Other dignitaries expected to accompany the Premier are the Speaker, Deputy-Speaker and Members of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature, Chairperson and members of the Provincial Portfolio Committee on Health, Members of the Executive Council, Executive Mayor of Pixley-Ka-Seme District Municipality, Mayors of all Local Municipalities in the district, Municipal counselors as well as senior officials from the Provincial and District Department of Health.
