This campaign aims to encourage positive action of taking responsibility for one’s health through action, through testing for HIV, community dialogue, door-to-door, health walks and is conducted under the theme of: “Working together for opportunities and progress for women: Forward to the Decade of African Women”
The year 2010 marks the 54th Anniversary of the Women’s March to the Union Building on the 9th August 1956 in defiance of the oppressive pass laws. Therefore, this Ministerial Health Campaign proceed from the premise that women efforts towards the advancement of women should be taken forward and that the women of today should champion the plight of vulnerable people in society and unite against imbalances in the provision of health care services.
Critical to our campaign success requires that we confront the quadruple pandemic: 1) HIV,AIDS,Tuberculosis(TB),Sexually Transmitted Diseases(STI), 2) Maternal, Infant and under-five Mortality, 3)Violence and abuse, 4)Non-communicable diseases like high blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes mellitus and cancer. Focus will also be on Oral and Eye clinics, Medical Male Circumcision, male and female condom distribution as well as human resource development in terms of study opportunities in the health sector.
Despite achievements in improving access to health care, however much more still needs to be done in terms of quality of care, making services available to all citizens of our province and ensuring better health outcomes.
Programme of the campaign are as follows:
DATE | DISTRICT |
23-25 Aug 2010 | Pixley-Ka-Seme |
30 Aug- 02 Sept 2010 | Siyanda |
06-09 Sept 2010 | Namaqua |
13-16 Sept 2010 | John Taolo Gaetsewe |
20-23 Sept 2010 | Frances Baard |
Specific communities will be targeted within different municipalities in the abovementioned districts.
We call upon all communities targeted, to support the campaign and access the services to be rendered to ensure we build healthy communities.
Working together, we can do more!
