Big Walk 2013

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture together with National Department of Sport and Recreation will be hosting the second annual Big Walk 2013. The Fun Walk/ Run was initiated by the National Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula in 2012.

It will commence from the AR Abass stadium on Saturday, 05 October 2013. It is also aimed at enhancing social cohesion and nation building.

The Fun Run/Walk begin at the AR Abass Stadium in Square Hill Park and will proceed into Storkroos road down into St Pauls road over the Traffic lights into Seochoareng street. It will travel through to Galeshewe where participants will move down Seochoareng street.

The walk/run will move down Hulana street, right into Montlahla street, Morgan street, down into Royal street, Tyson road before turning into Galeshewe road. Participants will then turn left at Traffic Lights into Pniel road, short right into Madelief road, left into Petunia road, left into Stockroos street, and back to AR Abass Stadium.

The event is promising lots of entertainment for kids and the entire family. There will be Jumping Castles, Body Building Show, Indigenous Games and Karate Junior Girls Display amongst others. The community will also get to enjoy Skateboarding Clinics, Golf Clinics, Zumba Dance and a variety of Government Services. The event is intended to get kids off the streets and encourage a healthy living.
