Artist Summit

The Northern Cape Department of Sport , Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Cultural Industries Federation of South Africa (CIFSA), Kapa Bokone Community Arts Centre Forum and The Pride of Ubuntu Arts Centre will be hosting the second annual Artist Summit in Kimberley in the Frances Baard District from Saturday, 8 to Sunday, 09 December 2018. The gathering will be held under the theme "Repositioning the Arts and Culture for Economic Transformation".

The purpose of the summit is to create a platform for artists to discuss transformational issues in the creative sector, as well as to provide a stimulating environment for stakeholders to discuss the potential of Arts, Culture and Heritage Sector in the Province. It is also envisaged to provide participants with opportunity to articulate to the Provincial Administration on programmes and processes that will enhance and develop the sector in the Northern Cape. The summit comes during the crucial year when the country celebrates the double centenaries of our former President Dr. Nelson Mandela and a struggle icon mme Albertina Sisulu.

The interactive session will see stakeholders afforded the opportunity to gauge and deliberate on the progress made in the implementation of resolutions of the maiden summit which was held in Upington in the ZF Mgcawu District in 2017.

The first and second days of the summit will see delegates engaged in panel discussions in matters including Capacity Building, Repositioning the Northern Cape Government to support the Arts and Culture Sector, Funding Model for Artists, Access to Infrastructure and Markets, Optimal Operationalization of the Northern Cape Theatre, Academic Development of Artists and Artist Festival at a National, Provincial and Local level. Artists will also get the opportunity to showcase their talent during a music, arts and cultural festival to be held at the Flamingo Casino on Saturday.

The MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Ms. Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba and stakeholders will make use of  Sunday, 09 December 2018 to address members of the media on matters affecting the creative industry in the province at the Flamingo Casino at 12h00.

The 150 artists from across 5 districts of the Province  that will be participating  will be from the following sectors, Cultural and Natural Heritage, Performance and Celebration, Visual Arts and Crafts, Languages and Publishing , Audio Visual and Interactive Media , Design, Creative and ACH Technical Support Services, Arts Education and Training and Indigenous Wisdom.
