Freedom Day 2019 Media Statement

The Warrenton community in the Frances District will receive a new library that is scheduled to be officially opened by the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Ms. Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba on Friday, 26 April 2019. The H.O Kgadiete Community Library in Warrenton  will be handed over to the community together with a new multipurpose sports facility. They form part of 2019 Freedom Day's build up programmes.

The Freedom Day celebration will be commemorated at the Ikhutseng Stadium in Warrenton in the Frances Baard District from 10h00. The commemoration will be addressed by Premier Sylvia Lucas under the theme "Celebrating 25 years of Democracy".

Premier Lucas will be accompanied by the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Ms. Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba together with other dignitaries.

Government is making a call on all residents to join in the celebrations of our democracy and freedom. This year’s Freedom Month comes shortly before the upcoming national and provincial elections on 08 May, in which all South Africans will be exercising their democratic right to vote.

As part of Freedom Month programmes, the Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture handed over a Multi Purpose Sport Facility to the community of Carolousburg in the Namakwa District on Wednesday, 17 April 2019 in Namakwa District. The department also officially opened the  new M.S Kitchin Study Library in Kuruman on Tuesday, 23 April 2019. The library will also serve as an office space for district officials in the Kuruman area.

During Freedom Month we celebrate our achievements and reflect on our successes of the 25 years of freedom and democracy.

The media is hereby invited to the opening of the library and multipurpose sport facility on the 26 April 2019 in Warrenton and to the Freedom Day Celebrations at the Ikhutseng Stadium in Warrrenton on the 27th April 2019.
