Adopt-an-ECD campaign launches in the Northern Cape

The South African Government has since the dawn of democracy prioritized Early Childhood Development as an integral part of addressing the legacy of apartheid education policies.

Therefore, pursuant to the vision of building a caring society, and as part of our quest to tackle the root causes of poverty, in particular intergenerational poverty, we identified the provision of Early Childhood Development as key to the success towards achieving Vision 2030 goal.

Effective Early Childhood Development programmes can help South Africa’s children break free of the poverty cycle, yet fewer than half access it.  Therefore in a bid to give the nation’s children a better start in life, the National Development Agency (NDA) and the Department of Social Development are launching the Adopt-an-ECD campaign, which urges individuals and organisations to step in to help address the problem.

The campaign is aimed at increasing resource flows to ECDs based in rural areas. These are ECDs which will not normally receive any funding from either government or the private sector because of their status but nevertheless are trying to play a crucial role in the communities that they serve.

The MEC for Social Development, Ms Tiny Chotelo, will officially launch the Adopt-an-ECD campaign in the Northern Cape at a business breakfast as follows:

Date: 30 April 2014
Venue: Protea Hotel ( Big Hole)
West Circular Road Kimberley
Time: 08h30 for 09h00

An online portal available at www.ndacampaigns.co.za; offers information about the campaign,  allows individuals and organisations to register as donors and ultimately makes it possible for parties to make a financial contribution to the ECD of their choice. Selected ECDs in the Northern Cape are profiled on this portal with their specific resource requirements.

The media is hereby cordially invited to the ECD Business breakfast and we trust that you will grace us with your presence.

I trust you will find it in order.

Thank You
