Winter Relief Programme extends to scholars

Emang Mmogo handoverMEC for Social Development Mr. Alvin Botes responded to the plight of young learners at Emang Mmogo Comprehensive School by donating school jerseys. The learners all come from impoverished families and an appeal was made to the Department of Social Development to intervene in providing proper school uniforms considering the cold winter season.

We clearly understand that there are quite a substantial number of young children in the same situation who might not be brought to our attention, but we would like to appeal to our media partners, community members and society in general not to hesitate to bring such children to our attention. We dearly appeal to other sources to come on board as well, and make pledges to adopt a school or school kid, and just buy a winter jersey or something.

This is also part of the Department's Winter Relief Campaign that was launched in May this year in Fraserburg. The Winter Relief Program was implemented by the Department to assist with temporary social relief during these cold winter days and to provide assistance to the needy. Over and above we have already provided community members with food parcels , blankets and school tracksuits to identified learners.

The main receipents of the blankets , food parcels and track suits are vulnerable children , unemployed persons , older persons and persons infected and affected by HIV / AIDS.

Officials from the Department of Social Development have also come on board by donating school jerseys that they have either purchased or not used by their children but are in a good condition.

We realize that it is a drop in the ocean and that we cannot reach everybody but trust that we have made changes in the lives of those who we are going to reach more especially the most needy.
